Charities

Contributions

If you would like to contribute to the charity budget, you can do so through the termly levy on your battels account, which is labelled ‘JCR Charity Payment’.

The Charity budget is divided between supporting the college’s permanent charities (voted on annually), making up the sponsorship fund, and to charitable events in college.

Sponsorship Fund

The charity sponsorship fund supports members of the college who are fundraising for charity. Funds available will vary depending on the charities budget and the amount requested. Please either fill in the form, or use it as a guideline to submit requests via email (email to jcr.charity@lmh.ox.ac.uk).

The form is here to view and download.

Charities Supported by LMH

The charities supported by LMH are flexible, and open to suggestions which are important to the LMH community.

Please do contact the Charities Officer (jcr.charity@lmh.ox.ac.uk) if you are keen to run an event in support of a particular charity.

The charities which part of the budget will be donated to in 2024/25 are:

Oxford Mutual Aid

OMA began in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, as a community support group, to fill a gap in Oxford’s aid infrastructure. Most of their work involves the delivery of regular and emergency food parcels to vulnerable members of the community facing food insecurity. In addition to food, they also provide household items, toiletries, and are the only organisation within Oxford to provide provisions baby supplies for new and expectant mothers. Operationally, they support 180 households weekly and provide an additional 250 emergency food packages a month, with over 25,000 packages delivered since 2020. Anyone can self-refer via our website, email, or phone line - they don’t means test applications, and deliver direct to recipients, meaning they are often a key source of support for those who have fallen between the cracks of other support systems - particularly the homeless, asylum seekers, the mentally ill and the disabled. With a strong community ethos, they believe in supporting physical and emotional health, offering nutritious and inviting food parcels that match the preferences, health requirements and ethical/religious needs of each individual, and hold regular community gatherings to build community between recipients and volunteers.

Homeless Oxfordshire

Homeless Oxfordshire provides an open door for people whose lives have been shaped by trauma and disadvantage; offering safety, stability and support when it is needed most. Not only are they the largest provider of accommodation for people experiencing homelessness in Oxfordshire, but they also provide a wide range of specialist support services beyond bricks and mortar. Their residents are mothers, brothers, aunties, cousins. They are artists, cooks, teachers, veterans. They have experienced trauma, disadvantage, discrimination and social exclusion, and their support enables them to rebuild their lives.

Survivor's Space

Until 2024, they were known as the Oxfordshire Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre – or OSARCC for short. As Survivor Space, they run the same, trauma-informed specialist services for survivors of sexual violence in Oxfordshire, and hope to reach even more people who need our help in the community. Survivor Space is an inclusive organisation which actively challenges discrimination in all its forms, including but not limited to discrimination based on sex, gender identity, race, religion, sexual or romantic orientation, disability, age, and class. We welcome contact from survivors from all walks of life, including people who sell sex and trans gender or non-binary people.
